Inflation Sees Biggest One Month Drop Since 2020

The BLS is reporting that the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) decreased 0.4% on a seasonally adjusted basis in June. The BLS says this decline in the all items index was the largest 1-month decrease since April 2020 when it fell 0.8%.  Click here to read more.

Pending Home Sales Down 5.4% in June

The National Association of Realtors is reporting that pending home sales were down 5.4% in June and down 0.3% year over year.  Click here to read more.

The U.S. government is reporting that privately‐owned housing starts in June, 2026 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,427,000, which is 19% higher than May’s revised number and is 3.5% higher than one year ago.  Click here to read more.

 

Massachusetts Judge Strikes Rent Control Initiative from Fall Ballot

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court blocked a proposed statewide rent control initiative from appearing on the November general election ballot, ruling that it violated the state constitution.  Click here to read more.

Yardi Says Rents Up 1% in First Half of ’26
According to the latest Yardi Matrix Multifamily Report, advertised rents grew slowly in the first half of 2026, but that’s not stopping investors from allotting capital to the sector.  Click here to read more.
FinCEN Update

Jeff Watson says real estate investors, private lenders, and title & escrow companies have operated in confusing regulatory uncertainty since a federal judge vacated the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network’s (FinCEN) Anti-Money Laundering Regulations for Residential Real Estate Transfers- commonly known as the RRE rule- in March of 2026. The situation became even muddier when FinCEN filed a notice of appeal of that ruling seeking to have the rule reinstated. I believe the Trump-led Department of Justice will NOT zealously prosecute this appeal.  Click here to read more.
