Existing-Home Sales Down 3.4% in April
The National Association of Realtors is reporting that existing home sales were down 3.4% in April to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 4.28 million (down 23.2% year over year).  Click here to read more.
Housing Starts Up 2.2% in April

The U.S. government is reporting that privately‐owned housing starts in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,401,000, which is 2.2% higher than March’s revised number and is 22.3% lower than one year ago.  Click here to read more.

How Does Your State Rank on Income Taxes?

How does your state rank on individual income taxes? According to the Tax Foundation’s 2023 State Business Tax Climate Index, the individual income tax is important to businesses because states tax sole proprietorships, partnerships, and, in most cases, limited liability companies (LLCs) and S corporations under the individual income tax code.  Click here to read more.

Seller Finance Bill Introduced in Congress

In mid-May Congressmen Andy Barr (R-KY) and Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) introduced the Affordable Homeownership Access Act. The bill seeks to provide working families with another access point to the home buying process by providing relief to individuals and small businesses so that they can sell their homes directly to a buyer without the fees associated with being a mortgage originator.  Click here to read more.

A new program from Airbnb called Rooms goes “back to the future.” The platform says their new offering is an all-new take on the original Airbnb.  Click here to read more.

Redfin Says Landlords Facing Rising Vacancies and Lower Rent Growth

A new report from Redfin says an increase of new rentals hitting the market coincided with a slowdown in tenant demand. They say even though rent growth remains positive, for the past 11 months it has been gradually cooling.  Click here to read more. 

Stop Asking for a Mentor

Daniel Hart says mentors are a critical part of any business, and even throughout life in general.  Other people hold invaluable wisdom that helps us grow, not just as a business, but as a human being.  One of the first questions he sees new real estate investors ask, often before they’ve even read a single book about investing, is “Where can I find a mentor?” or “Will you be my mentor?” Mentors are a critical part of real estate investing, and any business for that matter, but please, I beg you, stop asking for them.  Click here to read more.
