2010 National REIA Day On The Hill

April 21-22, 2010 Submitted by Don Newman

Anna and I want to thank REIA of Toledo for sending us to the National REIA’s “National Day on the Hill” in Washington D.C.

We were thrilled to have been able to meet and visit in the office of the following US Congressman and Senators:

Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur’s – Legislative Director

Congressman Robert Latta – Robert Latta and his Legislative Director

Congressman John Boehner (Minority Leader) – Legislative Director

Senator George Voinovich – Legislative Director

We were speaking about several issues including the following:

H.B. 3401 – FOR – Congress approving the expansion of Capital Gains payments on Land Contracts from paying up front the first year to extending it over the life of the Land Contract.

H.B. 1741 – AGAINST – This bill in essence would limit anyone who is a NON LICENSED MORTGAGE LOAN OFFICER to sell a residence with any type of owner financing to one house every three years.

We truly feel that H.B. 3401 was a direct result of our meetings with the Representative from the previous year and find it to be rewarding to think that they may possibly be listening to our groups that were in Washington.

Anna and I both felt that next year or even before the next event that it would be well worth it to take a group with us again.

I recommend that we begin thinking and planning for next year.  There is definitely power in numbers.

Together, we can make a difference!
